Composition of the Veterinary Council

The Veterinary Council of Ghana comprises a diverse group of professionals drawn from key institutions and stakeholder groups within the veterinary and animal health sector. The Council is composed of:

• The Chief Veterinary Officer
• Four registered veterinary surgeons nominated by the Ghana Veterinary Medical Association (GVMA)
• One legal practitioner nominated by the Attorney-General
• One representative from the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
• One representative from an accredited university with a veterinary training school in Ghana
• One prominent livestock farmer appointed by the Government

This multi-sectoral structure ensures the Council’s decisions are guided by a balanced mix of academic, technical, legal, research, and industry expertise — all essential for regulating veterinary practice and protecting public interest in Ghana.
