The Veterinary Council of Ghana, in collaboration with the Schools of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ghana and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), successfully held the 10th Induction and Oath-Swearing Ceremony for Newly Qualified Veterinary Surgeons on Friday, 24th October 2025, at the Forestry Commission Training Centre in Ejisu, Kumasi.
This year’s event marked the second joint induction bringing together graduates from both veterinary schools under one professional oath. The ceremony, attended by dignitaries from academia, government, and the veterinary profession, celebrated forty (40) newly qualified veterinary surgeons who were formally inducted into the profession.
In her welcome address, Dr. Mabel Abudu, Ashanti Regional Veterinary Officer, commended the graduates for their dedication and urged them to embrace their new roles as guardians of animal welfare and ambassadors of the One Health agenda.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Albert Henstock Kofi Kwansah-Filson, a distinguished veterinarian, emphasized the values of integrity, compassion, and excellence as the foundation of professional practice. He reminded the new doctors to uphold honesty in their work, show empathy in their service, and pursue continuous learning to meet modern challenges in veterinary medicine.
The President of the Ghana Veterinary Medical Association (GVMA), Dr. Joseph Kofi Abuh, encouraged the inductees to see the ceremony as the beginning of a lifelong journey of service and professionalism. He called on them to join the GVMA and contribute to advancing veterinary practice and policy in Ghana.
Speeches from the Deans of the Schools of Veterinary Medicine at both universities highlighted the commitment of the institutions to training competent and compassionate veterinarians. They encouraged the new professionals to uphold ethical standards, pursue lifelong learning, and serve humanity with humility and diligence.
In his closing remarks, Prof. Raphael D. Folitse, Pioneer Dean of the KNUST School of Veterinary Medicine, congratulated the new doctors and charged them to uphold the integrity of the profession. He urged them to serve with humility, resist corruption, and remain vigilant against zoonotic diseases that threaten public health.
Representing her colleagues, Dr. Loretta Aminarh delivered a heartfelt acceptance speech, recounting the class’s journey through challenges such as COVID-19, double-track schedules, and rigorous training. She expressed gratitude to the faculty, families, and the Veterinary Council for their support and reaffirmed the class’s commitment to serve with integrity and compassion.
“The Veterinary Council of Ghana congratulates all newly inducted veterinary surgeons and extends its best wishes as they begin their professional journey. Their service will continue to strengthen animal health, protect public health, and contribute to national development.”
